Clinics & Services Offered

Many of the clinics listed below are available at both surgeries - unless otherwise directed - please attend the surgery you are registered with. heartandstethoscope

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND FOR AN APPOINTMENT THAT YOU INFORM THE SURGERY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. APPOINTMENTS IN CLINICS ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED AND MANY HOURS OF LOST TIME ARE EXPERIENCED WITH PATIENTS NOT ATTENDING.

Family Planning Services
You may make an appointment to see your a doctor, Sister Sandie Mulcaster or Nurse Practitioner Elaine Campbell to discuss contraceptive services.

Woman's Health Clinic
WHC are held at both surgeries, at Hartley Wintney on a Wednesday and at Hook on a Thursday. These are intended to cover all aspects of women's health care. A cervical smear can be undertaken by one of our specially trained Practice Nurses within normal surgery appointment times.

Well Person Check
Please book an appointment with the practice nurse.

Baby Clinic
These are held every Tuesday afternoon at Hook surgery 2.00 - 3.30 p.m.

At Hartley Wintney these clinics are held every Thursday afternoon (Weighing and Health Visitor 1.30pm) Immunisations 2.00 - 3.00 p.m.

The immunisation appointments are sent to you for routine vaccinations. Please inform the Surgery if you are unable to attend or if your child is unwell. If a carer, other than the parents, bring the child to clinic for immunisations it will be necessary to have written consent for this from the parents.

All parents are welcome to attend with babies and children up to five years. We offer the opportunity to have your child weighed and advise on such topics as weaning, sleep, potty training, temper tantrums, etc.

Maternity Care
Please see your own doctor when you first become pregnant, who will arrange for you to meet the midwife who will complete the booking arrangements for hospital care and advise you on all aspects of your pregnancy..
Ante and post natal groups are run at each surgery by the midwives and health visitors

Health Promotion Clinics
The doctors and practice nurses provide all aspects of health promotion advice and care during booked surgery hours. In addition there are specific clinics run by specially trained nurses, alongside your own doctor, designed to monitor specific medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma and Ischaemic Heart Disease.

Asthma/COPD Clinics are run at each surgery. Appointments can be made at reception at both surgeries. As a minimum you will need to be reviewed annually whilst you have a requirement for inhalers.

Diabetic Clinics are run every Wednesday morning. Appointments are sent for yearly and six monthly checks for non-insulin dependant diabetics. Insulin dependant diabetics are now being reviewed at the Surgery or Jointly with the Hospital.

Healthy Heart clinics are run at each surgery.

Minor Surgery
All doctors carry out minor surgical procedures. If you have any `lump' or` bump' that is bothering you they will be happy to offer advice. Should removal be appropriate they would be happy to arrange it.

Freezing Clinic
Some warts and skin leisions require cryotherapy treatment and the practice has facilities to provide this. Your doctor will advise you as to the suitability of this treatment. A clinic is held regularly at Hook Surgery and your doctor can arrange for you to attend.

'flu vaccinations
These are available from mid-October for anyone aged over 65, or others on medical advice. Dates will be published nearer the time. Please enquire at reception.

Dietician
A Dietician attends the each surgery alternate weeks. Referral is via your doctor - please discuss it with him/her.

Podiatry
A podiatrist attends the each surgery weekly . Referral must be through your own doctor or the Practice or District Nurse.

Physiotherapy
We are able to offer physiotherapy at both surgeries. Appointments can only be made with a referral from a doctor.

Hook & Hartley Wintney Consultant Lead Gynaecology Clinic

If your GP decides that you need to see a gynaecological consultant, you can now choose to be seen at Hook Surgery at our Gynaecology Clinic. If this is appropriate your GP will write a referral letter for you following your consultation.

This clinic is designed to be clinically effective with a personal service in a friendly, professional and discrete environment. It is a ‘one-stop shop’ where there will be an ultra-sound scanner available at the appointment plus a consultant able to interpret the results.

The appointments will be at Hook Surgery on Thursday evenings so that busy women with many commitments will find it more convenient to attend than at a clinic run during the day.

The patient will be greeted by a receptionist who will explain how the appointment will proceed. There will be a Health Care Assistant to measure BMI and blood pressure and other basic tests if this information is needed by the consultant. The patient will then see the sonographer for an ultrasound scan if that is appropriate for the patient’s condition.

After the scan, the patient will be seen by a gynaecological consultant. There will also be a GP with specialist knowledge at the clinic who will be seeing some patients. A female chaperone will be at the clinic at all times to assist where appropriate

Travel Vaccinations

Travel Clinics are run at both surgeries. We would advise that you contact us well in advance of your holiday arrangements so that a programmed of vaccinations can be carried out to ensure you have maximum protection whilst abroad. Please download the form at the bottom of the page and hand it to a receptionist so it can be passed to our travel clinic nurse. She will then look at your records and decide whether there are any vaccinations you will need. This process will take a few days. Depending on the iminemence of your trip the form will either be sent to you or a receptionist will call you to advise what type of appointment you require.

Although many of the vaccines are provided through the NHS there are some that we need to charge you for that fall outside of the NHS. A full list of charges will be explained to you on request. We do ask for payment at the time of immunisation.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
